Wayne State is ranked by the National Science Foundation among the nation's top public universities for research expenditures. Wayne State is home to the Perinatology Research Branch (PRB), one of the few National Institutes of Health branches located outside of Bethesda, MD. We also house one of 41 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers—the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute—and the new Center for Urban Responses to Environmental Stressors (CURES), funded by National Institutes of Health in 2014.
Through our multidisciplinary approach to research and education, our researchers seek to expand knowledge, enhance economic growth and improve the quality of life in the city of Detroit, state of Michigan and throughout the world. Our collaborators include government, industry, our University Research Corridor partner institutions and the many entrepreneurs in TechTown, a Wayne State-affiliated business accelerator and incubator.
