Just two weeks after launching its app for golfers, Detroit-based tech startup Golfler won the Top Buyers Choice Award out of the more than 200 exhibitors at the 2015 PGA Fashion & Demo Experience.Golfler founder, President and Chief Legal Officer Jason Pearsall, a 2013 alumnus of Wayne State University Law School and resident of Detroit, said he and the other company officials at the show in August in Las Vegas had no idea that would happen.

RetroSense Therapeutics, LLC, a Wayne State University start-up biotechnology company, has received the Luis Villalobos Award from the Angel Capital Association (ACA), the world's leading professional association for angel investors. The award was announced in a special awards ceremony held on April 15 at the 2015 ACA Summit in San Diego, the world’s largest gathering of angel investors. The award honoring the most innovative ACA angel invested company is named in memory of Luis Villalobos, who angel investors nationwide admired for actively investing in and mentoring ingenious, creative and innovative startups.

An invention to make lithium-ion batteries safer if they catch fire has gained a patent, thanks to Wayne State University Law School’s Patent Procurement Clinic. The patent is the first to be granted for an application filed by the clinic, which opened in July 2012.
